Strategic Alliances

Global microfinance leader Opportunity International Australia (OIA) was actively involved in the initial pilot project from which Many Rivers was established.

While Many Rivers is focused on microenterprise development in Australia, Opportunity Australia is focused on traditional microfinance and enterprise development services as a poverty alleviation tool in an international development context. Although Many Rivers is independently managed it considers Opportunity International Australia as a sister organisation that collaborates together in achieving common objectives. Many Rivers has developed some of the learnings of OIA in implementing a local program that is suitable in the Australian context.

David Bussau AM, the founder of Opportunity International Australia, is a founding Director of Many Rivers. David has been working in microenterprise development for over 35 years and has received numerous awards for this type of work including the “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year” and the “Senior Australian of the Year 2008” awarded by the Australia Day Council.

In 2012, Many Rivers commenced providing clients with access to pro bono legal services provided by Squire Patton Boggs for matters such as setting up business structures, negotiating contracts and other matters that are relevant in running a successful business.

Through a strategic alliance since 2009, Westpac provide Many Rivers’ clients with access to business loans, providing clients with “a real loan from a real bank” and helping build their credit history with a major bank. Click here to read more.
