What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers?
I’ve been unemployed for the past year but before that I was the Aboriginal Health Worker in Murrin Bridge.

Who referred you to Many Rivers? When?
I first met Ken when I was working in Murrin Bridge. He was at the community office about a block away from where my wife works, and I like to meet new people and he was an easy sort of fellow so for the next two years we kept in touch. When I lost my job Ken was a friendly ear and he listened to how I was going and gave me encouragement. He said if he could help me in any way to find a job or if there’s a small business idea to feel free to call him up anytime. It sparked that relationship and we’ve sort of been keeping in touch every time he came up to Murrin Bridge. He asks “How are you going?”, and I say “Things could be better.” Then he always says “Cheer up, something will come your way”, and a year down the track I’d pick up another job.… Continue reading

Who referred you to Many Rivers? When?

What is your previous work history and experience?
I’d been out at the mines for about eight years doing a whole variety of things – driving the big trucks, working in the diamond processing area at Argyle, working as a supervisor and also a leading hand.

Who referred you to Many Rivers? When?
My sister referred me to Many Rivers last year.

Why did you want to go into business?
Well, because I love doing tourism!  I just wanted to get out of the mine game and go into business for myself. My parents also run tours and I’ve grown up in the industry since I was 10 years old. I love it at the end of the day! … Continue reading

Harold Bani, Bani’s Car Detailing, Derby
West Kimberley, WA | September 2015

What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers?
I was looking for work and other opportunities, and I thought I would look back in my past employment to see what I could do. I used to do car detailing and I thought I would try and take that up on my own, as I wasn’t having much luck with looking for employment.

What is your previous work history and experience?
My first employment in the Kimberley was as a pearl diver, and then I was working on a shell tanker – carting shell from 80 Mile Beach up to Kuri Bay.  After that I was a machine operator.  I’ve been with Main Roads, doing road-works, and most of my previous employment was running machines like graders, dozers, roaders, trucks and water carts.  And I did car detailing in there as well. … Continue reading
